Cookie policy
This page explains what this website puts on your device, what it is for, and how to change your mind. It sits alongside our privacy policy, which covers everything else we do with your information.
The short version
Nothing that measures you loads until you press Accept. If you press Reject, or close the banner without choosing, no analytics script is requested at all and no cookie is set by us. The site works exactly the same either way, and no part of it is held back behind a yes.
What we set without asking
One thing, and it holds one word.
| What | Where | What it is for | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
piper-cookie-consent |
Your browser's local storage, not a cookie | Remembers whether you said yes or no, so we stop asking on every page | Until you clear your browsing data |
This is not a cookie. It is never sent to us, it never leaves your browser, and
it contains nothing but the word granted or denied. Remembering your answer
is treated as strictly necessary under the Privacy and Electronic Communications
Regulations, which is why we do not ask permission to remember it. Asking you
the same question on every page would be worse for you, not better.
What we set only if you say yes
If you press Accept, we load Google Tag Manager, which in turn loads Google Analytics. These are Google products and Google sets the cookies, not us.
| What | Who sets it | What it is for | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga |
Google Analytics | Tells one browser apart from another so visits are not counted twice | 2 years |
_ga_* |
Google Analytics | Keeps track of a single visit from page to page | 2 years |
We use this to see how many people visit, which pages they read, and whether anybody gets as far as the enquiry form. We do not use it for advertising, we run no remarketing, and there is no advertising pixel anywhere on this site.
When you send us an enquiry we record that an enquiry was sent, and which of the service options you picked. We never put your name, email address, phone number, postcode or message into analytics. Those go to us by email and nowhere else, which the privacy policy explains.
The Google map on the contact page
At the foot of our contact page there is a map showing where we are. It is provided by Google, and when it loads Google sets its own cookies in your browser, in the same way it would if you opened Google Maps yourself. This is the only third-party content anywhere on this site apart from analytics.
We have no control over those cookies, cannot read them and receive nothing from them. What Google does with them is covered by Google's privacy policy.
The map sits at the very bottom of that page and only loads when you scroll down to it, so leaving before then means it never loads at all. Our full address and phone number are written out above it either way, so you never need the map to find us or get in touch.
Changing your mind
Clear your browsing data for this site and the question will come back the next time you visit, and you can answer it the other way.
You can also refuse or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time, or block third-party cookies, which will stop both the analytics and the map without affecting anything else here. Nothing we do depends on them.
If we ever add anything else
If we add anything that sets a cookie or stores anything else on your device, we will ask you first, before it is set, and update this page. We have not put anything on this site that quietly changed what it does.
If you have any questions about this policy, contact us at sales@piper-windows.co.uk or call 01754 898 998.
