Warm conservatory roofs
A warm roof replaces the glass or polycarbonate roof of a conservatory with an insulated, tiled one. It is the single most effective change you can make to a conservatory that is unbearable in July and too cold to sit in from October onwards.
The reason it works is simple. A glazed roof is the largest surface of the room and the worst insulated, so it loses heat in winter and gains it in summer faster than everything else put together. Insulating it turns a seasonal room into one you use in February.
The system has been tested and certified by Jhai Building Control Ltd, an accredited national building control approvals agency, and the timber in it comes from responsible companies with sustainable forest regeneration programmes.

What to think about before you choose
Whether the existing frames will take it
A tiled roof weighs considerably more than glass or polycarbonate. Whether the existing frames and base can carry that is the first thing to establish, and it is established on site rather than from a photograph.
How much daylight you keep
Roof windows can be built into a warm roof so the room does not go dark, and where they go is the main design decision. A room that was too bright can easily be made too gloomy.
Building control
Replacing a conservatory roof with a solid one is notifiable work in most cases, because it changes what the structure is. That is why a certified system matters and why the paperwork is part of the job.
