Stable doors
A stable door splits into two halves, so the bottom can stay shut and locked while the top is open. It is the traditional answer to airing a kitchen or a utility room without letting the dog out or leaving a toddler an open doorway.
The two halves lock together and work as a single door when you want them to, so nothing is given up on security by having the split there.

How the two halves meet
The joint across the middle is where weather will try to get in, so the rebate and the seals there matter more than they do on a plain door. It is the detail worth asking about.
